Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard: labels, definitions and how to move among categories.
Underwriting groups term policies using rating categories. Names shift slightly across carriers, yet the ladder stays the same: Preferred Plus (also Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, with added charges for greater-than-standard hazards. Tobacco consumers occupy a parallel tier system at raised rates.
What underwriters look at
Height and weight proportions, blood-pressure readings and cholesterol levels, family cardiac or cancer background before age 60, vehicle safety record, medication background, work type and pursuits, and tobacco or nicotine consumption. Nearly-clean results on all fronts earn the best class; Preferred allows minor variation; Standard Plus and Standard accommodate managed problems like regulated blood pressure.
How to use the quote tool
The health query asks: how would you characterize your wellbeing? Excellent aims for Preferred Plus, Very good for Preferred, Good for Standard Plus and Average for Standard. Rates match that assumption; the company determines your real tier during underwriting. When uncertain, request quotes at two tiers and evaluate, letting the application make the final call. Overstating your health doesn't reduce price; it just skews the estimate.
Susman Insurance Agency may locate insurers with more favorable requirements for your condition, often affecting your price more than headline figures do.
